Cuts & Colours: Meat Craft Coloring Book

Ronny Paulusch's new children's coloring book takes readers on a 52-page journey from the farm to the table. It combines information about the origins of food and traditional craftsmanship with coloring pages and can be customized for butcher shops with their own logo.

The "Cuts & Colours" coloring book is sitting on a wooden table next to colored pencils and crayons.

Vienna, October 16, 2026. Where does meat come from? What does a butcher do, and why do cuts of meat look different? With “Cuts & Colours—A Meat Coloring Book,” M.E.A.T. GmbH is introducing a book that makes these questions accessible to children. In it, certified meat sommelier Ronny Paulusch combines a continuous story with coloring pages, brief explanations, and small discovery activities. The book is available for order now.

The journey begins in the farmyard and in the pasture. It takes readers through the slaughterhouse and the butcher’s workshop, all the way to a shared meal. A separate chapter introduces the profession of meat sommelier. The pages build on one another: What children first learn about animals, they later encounter again as food—during preparation and at the table.

Look closely, ask questions

This also involves looking closely. With roast beef, you can distinguish between the muscle and the outer layer of fat; with a T-bone steak, the bone is also present. The illustrations combine recognizable shapes with areas to color in. Short activities draw attention to differences and encourage children to ask questions. Additional notes are intended for accompanying adults.

Slaughter is also part of the story. A short chapter addresses the topic in a factual and child-friendly manner, covering the farm, rest areas, and the respectful treatment of animals. The book avoids graphic depictions.

“It’s just part of the process, and it would be wrong to ignore it,” says Ronny Paulusch about the chapter on slaughter.

An opportunity for businesses and families to talk

For butcher shops, the book offers a concrete opportunity to start conversations with families about food origins, ingredients, and artisanal craftsmanship. Whether given as a gift with a purchase, for an anniversary, or at Christmas, it can keep the business in the customer’s mind long after their visit to the counter. Children explore the pictures; parents find starting points for conversations about food at home.

The standard edition is available for businesses ordering 25 or more copies. For orders of 500 or more, a branded edition featuring the butcher shop’s own logo on the cover can be ordered. This turns the book into a personalized gift from the business. Volume discounts provide flexibility for different order sizes. Associations, guilds, and barbecue schools can also use it for family events, activities, or collaborations with local organizations.

Discovering and Understanding Together

In kindergartens, preschool classes, and elementary schools, the book can be used as a tool for discussion and creative activities. Coloring, observing, and discussing together give adults opportunities to build on the children’s prior knowledge and address their questions. The focus is on where food comes from, the work of the people involved, and a mindful approach to animals and food.
