Vienna – March 2026 With “Didactics in the Trades – New Insights from Harvard,” Ronny Paulusch presents a work of over 400 pages that combines international higher education didactics with practical vocational training. The book is now available in bookstores and directly from the author.
The starting point for this work was Paulusch’s professional development at the Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning at Harvard University. There, he earned the Higher Education Teaching Certificate and delved deeper into key pedagogical concepts such as backward design, Bloom’s Taxonomy, and constructive alignment. These ideas were refined at Harvard—but the actual development took place at the intersection of the workshop, the classroom, and international professional practice.
“Didactics in the Skilled Trades” is not intended as an academic textbook, but rather as a working guide for instructors, master craftsmen, sommeliers, and educational institutions. It focuses on structure, clarity, and effectiveness in the classroom—and on the question of how learning in the skilled trades can once again be consciously shaped.
In his book, Paulusch combines international perspectives with concrete strategies for practical application: from learning architecture and a culture of feedback to motivation and performance evaluation, and on to the meaningful use of AI in the classroom. The result is a unique conceptual framework for vocational education and training processes that consistently integrates theory and practice.
“Good teaching is no accident. It is a commitment to structure, clarity, and responsibility,” says Paulusch. The book is aimed at instructors in the skilled trades, educational institutions, and companies that want to strategically advance their apprenticeship programs. It has been published as a hardcover edition, with English and Spanish editions to follow.
